Derivation: After F. W. L. Leichhardt, 1813-48, explorer and botanist in Australia from 1842.

Common name: None

Description:
Shrubs twining; leaves narrow-linear, opposite and sometimes decussate, petiolate or sessile.

Inflorescence pedunculate, umbellate, with short pedicels; corolla lobes obtuse; corona adnate to the stamens, with 5 fleshy lobes below; stigmatic head conical, obtuse; pollen masses oblong, erect.

follicles usually 1 per umbel; seeds comose.

Distribution:  About 5 species in Australia and New Caledonia.

Taxonomic notes: Brown also spelt the name Leichardtia.
