Description:
Anthers with parallel oblong cells; ovary with cells l-ovulate (3-ovulate in Africa).

Fruit indehiscent, woody, covered by hard spines, with an apical beak absent or very reduced.

Distribution:  3 or 4 species, 1 confined to east Africa, 1 or 2 species endemic to tropical and arid Australia, and another extending from there into Malesia.
