Description:
Native trees and shrubs of south-eastern Australia, p. 229.) Shrub to 2 m; glabrous; branchlets often ending in a stout rigid spine; leaves scattered or crowded on short lateral branchlets, sessile or nearly so, linear to oblong or narrowly obovate, obtuse, 5-20 mm or more long, entire or obtusely serrate, margins flat; stipules ovate, c. 1 mm long.
Flowers solitary or in pairs; peduncle short, 2-5 mm long; sepals orbicular-ovate, 2-3 mm long; petals yellowish, ovate, obtuse, 3-4 mm long, the upper part reflexed; anthers with fringed appendages; ovary globose; style c. 1 mm long.
Fruit a berry, ellipsoid-globular, purple-black, 4-5 mm diam., with 1 or 2 seeds.
