Citation: R. Br. ex DC., Prod. 1:315 (1824).

Synonymy: H. angustifolia R. Br. ex DC., Prod. 1:315 (1824); H. dentata R. Br. ex De. var. angustifolia Benth., Fl. Aust. 1:105 (1863); H. banksii F. Muell., Pl. Indig. Col. Vic. 1:69 (1862), nom. illegit.

Common name: Tree violet.

Description:
Native trees and shrubs of south-eastern Australia, p. 229.) Shrub to 2 m; glabrous; branchlets often ending in a stout rigid spine; leaves scattered or crowded on short lateral branchlets, sessile or nearly so, linear to oblong or narrowly obovate, obtuse, 5-20 mm or more long, entire or obtusely serrate, margins flat; stipules ovate, c. 1 mm long.

Flowers solitary or in pairs; peduncle short, 2-5 mm long; sepals orbicular-ovate, 2-3 mm long; petals yellowish, ovate, obtuse, 3-4 mm long, the upper part reflexed; anthers with fringed appendages; ovary globose; style c. 1 mm long.

Fruit a berry, ellipsoid-globular, purple-black, 4-5 mm diam., with 1 or 2 seeds.
