Electronic Flora of South Australia infraspecific Fact Sheet

Family: Malvaceae
Hibiscus sturtii var. sturtii

Citation: Ill. Cunningham et al. (1982) Plants of western New South Wales, p. 480.

Synonymy: Not Applicable

Common name: None

Description:
Peduncles shorter than or equalling the petioles; epicalyx with c. 8 rounded-triangular teeth; calyx as long as the epicalyx, teeth 0.5-2 mm long; petals usually pink.

Distribution:  S.Aust.: NW, LE.   Qld; N.S.W.

Flowering time: Aug. (1 record).

Biology: Not Applicable

Taxonomic notes: The only record is an identification by Mitchell (1978) who, in 1981 not only did not record it for S.Aust. but specified that it is restricted to eastern N.S.W. Cunningham et al. (1982) Plants of western New South Wales, p. 480 described it as occurring in western N.S.W. but illustrated a form with very long peduncles. Although this specimen has rather long peduncles, the subtruncate (crenulate) epicalyx does suggest that it is close to var. sturtii.
