Description:
Woody shrub to c. 1 m tall; branches minutely papillate, often somewhat spine-tipped; leaves opposite, partly adnate to the branches, the free apex to 22 mm long; the floral leaves lanceolate, 9-12 mm long.
Flowers solitary; bracteoles lanceolate, 4.5-7 mm long; perianth-segments 1-nerved, lanceolate, 6-10 mm long, green; stamens as in H. diandra; style notched.
Fruits in the axils of the enlarged and conspicuous spreading or reflexed weakly spiny bracts to 30 mm long; seeds pyriform to globose, light-brown.
