Description:
Annual herb 7-45 cm high; stems few, erect or ascending, branched, green, glandular-scabrous, often woody near the base; leaves alternate, linear, subamplexicaul, obtuse to subacute, 1-4.5 cm long, 1-5 mm wide, glandular-scabrous, dark-green, with recurred margins.
Capitula solitary, terminal on leafy branches; involucre hemispherical, becoming radiate, 7-10 mm long, 10-12-seriate; outer bracts with dark-red acuminate lanceolate laminae on successively longer white-woolly claws; intermediate bracts with reflexed white or pinkish broad-ovate acuminate laminae 2-4 mm long on linear claws; innermost bracts with reduced obtuse laminae on scarious-winged glandular claws; receptacle slightly convex; florets numerous; corollas golden-yellow, exserted.
Achenes truncate-fusiform, 1.5-2 mm long, glabrous, shiny; pappus bristles 8-12, connate, 5-6 mm long, plumose from the base with coarser barbs at the apex, persistent.
