Description:
Annual herb 2-18 cm high; stems several, erect to ascending, simple, pale-brown, glabrous; leaves alternate, oblanceolate to elliptic, attenuate at the base, subacute, 3-12 mm long, 0.8-2 mm wide, thick, glabrous.
Capitula solitary, terminal on the stem; involucre hemispherical, becoming radiate, 5- or 6-seriate, glabrous; outer bracts broad-ovate, scarious, greenish-brown; inner bracts with oblong greenish cartilaginous claws and white ovate acute spreading laminae 2-6 mm long; receptacle steeply conical; florets 12-40.
Achenes obovoid-gibbous, c. 2 mm long, white-villous with clavate hairs; pappus bristles 12-18, free, c. 3 mm long, plumose except at the base, with a dense terminal tuft of clavate hairs which may be yellowish or colourless, persistent.
