Description:
Annual or ephemeral herb, sometimes viscid, to 60 cm high; stems several, erect or ascending, simple to much-branched, brownish, glabrous to sparsely cobwebby; leaves alternate, linear-lanceolate to oblanceolate, the lower ones attenuate at the base, the others subamplexicaul, acute, 1-8 cm long, 1-10 mm wide, flat, glabrous or with a few minute glandular hairs.

Capitula subsessile, subtended by bracts 5-10 mm long in groups of 1-5 terminating short branches, forming a narrow leafy panicle or spike; involucre cylindrical to campanulate, 5-8 mm long, 2-3-seriate, cobwebby at the base; outer bracts broad-elliptic, stramineous, scarious; inner bracts longer, oblong, with a greenish midrib and golden scarious margins; receptacle flat to convex, minute; florets 7-14.

Achenes subterete, truncate, 3-3.5 mm long, white-villous; pappus bristles 12-20, free, 3-4 mm long, evenly plumose, persistent.

Distribution:  In various communities on richer soils, often on floodplains and watercourses.
