Electronic Flora of South Australia infraspecific Fact Sheet

Family: Asteraceae
Helichrysum bilobum var. scabrum

Citation: N. Burb., Aust. J. Bot. 6:255 (1958).

Synonymy: Ozothamnus scaber F. Muell., Linnaea 25:407 (1853); H. adnatum (DC.)Benth. var. scabrum (F. Muell.) Benth., Fl. Aust. 3:629 (1867); H. decurrens F. Muell. var. scabrum (F. Muell.) J. Black, fide E. Robertson, Fl. S. Aust. 946 (1957); H. bilobum Wakef. var. scabrum (F. Muell.) E. Robertson, Fl. S. Aust. 946 (1957).

Common name: None

Description:
Leaves coarsely scabrous, dull, at least some more than 1.5 cm (usually 2-2.5 cm) long.

Capitula with white-tipped scarious bracts subtending individual florets on the receptacle.

Distribution:  On rocky hillsides.

Flowering time: Oct. — Dec.

Biology: No text

Taxonomic notes: More detailed investigations are likely to confirm this as a distinct species but further collections of flowering and fruiting material are needed. The regular occurrence of receptacular bracts would otherwise require the transfer of this taxon to Cassinia but in all other respects it so closely resembles H. bilobum and no species of Cassinia that it is retained at least for the time being in Helichrysum.
