Description:
Much-branched herb with successive seasons' growth from a rootstock crown, lacking woody above-ground parts; branches of current season's growth a deep purplish-red, subglabrous; leaves (except near the base of the plant) essentially lacking woolly-cob- webby hairs; involucral bracts entirely lacking cobwebby hairs.

Taxonomic notes: Holotype:. Hj. Eichler 17479, S.Aust., NW region, Amoorinyinna Hill, c. 26 km south-west of Everard Park Homestead, 27°10'S, 132°31'E, 13.ix. 1963 (AD). Isotypes (n.y.): CANB, MEL, NSW. A subsp, ambiguo ramis folliisque pro parte maxima indumentum lanatum-arachnoideum carentibus, ramis vinaceis, habitu magis herbaceo non nisi radice palari perenni differt. The epithet (Latin vinaceum wine-coloured) refers to the conspicuous burgundy-coloured branches of this subspecies.
