Woody evergreen climbers or shrubs with peltate or stellate hairs; adventitious roots numerous along aerial stems and branches; leaves alternate, simple, entire or palmately lobed, narrowly elliptic to suborbicular, glossy, dark-green, exstipulate.
flowers bisexual, in many-flowered pedunculate umbels which are simple or combined to form particles of umbels, pedicellate; sepals minute, deltate; petals valvate; ovary semi-inferior, 5-celled, surmounted by a conspicuous domed disk, terminating in a single short style.
