Gunniopsis quadrifida

Citation: Pax, Natürl. Pflanzenfam. III, lb:44 (1889).

Synonymy: -Sesuvium quadrifidum F. Muell., Rep. Babbage Exped. 1858 9 (1859); Aizoon quadrifidum (F. Muell.)F. Muell., Fragm. Phyt. Aust. 2:148 (1861); Gunniopsis quadrifaria (F. Muell.)Pax (1889) in error for quadrifida.

Common name: Sturts pigface.

Description:
Whitish-grey branched densely papillose woody perennials usually 30-40 cm high but occasionally to c. 1 m; leaves narrow-linear to terete, fleshy, often 10-30 mm long, 1-5 mm wide.

Flowers solitary, terminal or in the forks of the branches, on peduncles 5-25 mm long; perianth white inside, 10-20 mm long, often enlarging in fruit, the lobes lanceolate-acuminate, segments equal in length and free for at least half their length; stamens numerous, in 4 groups alternating with the perianth-segments; filaments terete, papillose.

Capsules turbinate-truncate, 5-15 mm diam., with 2-fid valves; seeds comma-shaped, convex on the sides, tuberculate, dark-brown.
