Goodenia amplexans

Citation: F. Muell., J. Trans. Vict. Inst. 2:70 (1858).

Synonymy: G. amplexans F. Muell. var. angustifolia Krause, Pflanzenr. 54:62 (1912).

Common name: Clasping goodenia.

Description:
Undershrub to 1 m high, viscid, aromatic; stems erect, terete or somewhat ridged at first, densely glandular-pubescent; leaves ovate to elliptic, sessile, distichous, stemclasping, acute, 3-9 cm long, 0.6-3 cm wide, denticulate, densely glandular-pubescent and with fine simple hairs.

Flowers in leafy terminal racemes; bracts leaf-like; peduncle 3-5 mm long; bracteoles linear-lanceolate, c. 1 mm long; sepals lanceolate, 2.5-3.5 mm long, glandular-pubescent, adnate to the ovary almost to its apex; corolla 12-15 mm long, yellow, pubescent outside, glabrous or slightly bearded inside, with a minute pocket; wings equal; auricles vestigial; anthers c. 1.5 mm long; style 6-7 mm long, almost straight, villous; indusium broadly oblong, c. 1.5 mm long, c. 2 mm wide, slightly villous, with an almost straight orifice beset with white bristles; ovary glandular-pubescent; dissepiment half as long as the ovary, with ovules in 2 rows.

Capsule ellipsoid, 6-8 mm long, c. 4 mm wide, glandular-pubescent; valves entire or slightly split; seeds flat, elliptic, c. 3 mm long, colliculate, yellow-brown, with a thickened rim and a vestigial wing.

Distribution:  In open forest and woodland, and on coastal cliffs.
