Glischrocaryon aureum

Citation: Orch., Taxon 19:823 (1970) var. angustifolium (Nees.)Orch., Bull. Auckland Inst. Mus. 10:157 (1975).

Synonymy: Loudonia aurea Lindley, Sketch Veg. Swan Riv. Col. xlii (1840); L. aurea Lindley ( angustifolia Nees in Lehm., Pl. Preiss. 1:159 (1844); L. roei sensu J. Black, Fl. S. Aust. 641 (1952), in part (Gill Range), auct. non (Endl.)Schldl. (1847).

Common name: Common (or yellow) pop-flower.

Description:
Extremely variable perennial herb 25-65 cm tall, stems 1-2 (rarely 3.5)mm diam.; juvenile leaves more or less terete, 6-7 mm long, c. 0.5 mm wide, crowded, channelled above; mature leaves flattened, linear to linear-lanceolate, 8-40 mm long, 1-1.5 mm wide, sessile, acute.

Inflorescence consisting of 2-6 compound dichasia of 7-31 flowers each; primary bracts green, oblanceolate to obovate, 8-12 mm long, often adnate to the peduncles of the dichasia; bracteoles similar but smaller, 1.5-6 mm long; flowers 4-merous, yellow; sepals deltoid, 0.6-0.9 mm long; petals hooded, 2-4 mm long, tip not reflexed in bud; stamens 8; anthers oblong, 0.8-3.2 mm long; styles 0.8-1 mm long, stigmas yellow; ovary pear-shaped, 1.7-4 mm long, 4-winged, the wings decurrent on the sepals and pedicel.

Fruit yellow or reddish, on a pedicel to 4 mm long, ovoid to obovoid or pear-shaped, 7.5-11.5 mm long, 4-winged, the wings 2-3.5 mm wide, pericarp usually not or only slightly inflated.
