Derivation: After Ernest Giles, leader of the exploring expedition of 1875.

Description:
Small softly woody perennial evergreen undershrubs with predominantly glandular-hairy stems and branches; leaves with persistent (except on the oldest parts) green stipules, serrate or crenate, with pinnate venation, shortly petiolate.

Flowers bisexual, on 1- or 2-flowered axillary peduncles; bract single, persistent; epicalyx 0; calyx not petaloid, 5-lobed; petals 5, slightly longer or shorter than the petals, flat, narrowly oblong-elliptic; stamens 5, free, short, introrse, opposite the petals; staminodes 0; ovary sessile, 5-celled, with several ovules in each cell, stellate-hairy; style short, with 5 minute stigmatic lobes at its summit.

Fruit stellate-hairy, opening loculicidally in 5 valves; seeds several in each cell.

Distribution:  1 species endemic in Australia.
