Derivation: Greek geo, earth; coccos, seed; alluding to the fruits which are buried in the ground.

Description:
Annual herbs.

Sepals erect to spreading, scarcely dimorphic; petals not clawed; stamens 6; median nectariferous glands obsolete.

Fruit either a silicula or a siliqua, dehiscent, flattened parallel to septum; valves with the prominent mid-vein a reticulum of secondary veins; seeds in 2 rows, mucous; radicle incumbent. (Shaw (1965) Trans. Roy. Soc. S. Aust. 89:231-236).

Distribution:  Monotypic; endemic to Australia.
