Synonymy: Cladium trifidum Common name: Cutting grass, coast saw-sedge.
Description:
Stems rigid, usually over 1 m high; leaves inrolled, with long subulate drooping points, very scabrous on the margins and lower face.
Panicle erect, narrow, interrupted, 20-40 cm long; spikelets brown, 4-5 mm long, in dense oblong spike-like clusters with the secondary bracts obscured, usually 1-flowered; glumes mucronate or shortly awned, scabrous on the keel, the flowering glume as long as the others; stamens 4 or 5.
Nut obovoid-oblong, bluntly acute, gradually cuneate, c. 2 x 1 mm, bluntly trigonous with very convex sides, almost rounded, blackish, covered with longitudinal rows of a transparent shiny fine reticulate-papillose layer.
