Description:
Tufted perennial, cauline leaves well developed, to 35 cm long, sheaths pilose especially towards the top.

Inflorescence simple or compound; lowest involucral bracts usually distinctly longer than the inflorescence; spikelets subobtuse; glumes very broadly ovate, usually dark-castaneous, densely tomentose in the apical part, 3-4.5 mm long and wide; style c. 0.4 mm wide.

Nut obovate-pyriform, cuneate to a narrow base on a distinct stipe, c. 1.5 x 1.2 mm, light-straw-coloured, appearing lengthwise striate by a transparent very faint reticulate-papillose layer.

Distribution:  S.Aust.: LE.   W.Aust.; Qld; N.T.   Africa and Asia.

Conservation status: native

Flowering time: April — July.
