Description:
Shrubs and undershrubs; stems terete, woody; leaves alternate, sessile, pinnately divided.
Capitula terminal, solitary on long peduncles, large, radiate, heterogamous; involucres cup-shaped, uniseriate; bracts herbaceous with scarious margins, equal, connate at the base; receptacle convex, scaly, pitted; ray florets uniseriate, female, fertile, ligulate; style branches linear, truncate, somewhat flattened; disk florets bisexual, fertile, tubular, 5-merous; corolla dilated at the base to enclose the summit of the achene, narrowly tubular in the middle and campanulate above; anthers tailed at the base with lanceolate terminal appendages; style branches broadly linear, truncate, flattened, with densely papillose apices.
Achenes terete, glabrous; pappus of numerous capillary bristles.
