Common name: Crimson turkey-bush.

Description:
Erect shrub 1-4 m tall; branches prominently or rarely obscurely tuberculate, stellate-pubescent or glandular-pubescent, glabrescent; leaves alternate, scattered or clustered, linear-subterete to linear-oblanceolate and flattened, 9-90 x 1-5 mm, acute or obtuse, margins often thickened and more or less revolute entire but sometimes with protruding tubercles, stellate-pubescent to stellate-tomentose to glandular-pubescent.

Flowers 1 per axil; pedicel 3-11 mm long, slightly curved, stellate-pubescent; sepals valvate, green to purple, lanceolate, 8.5-24 x 3-7.5 mm, acuminate, enlarging slightly after flowering and prominently reticulately veined, outside surface glabrous with prominently stellatepubescent margins or sparsely to densely stellatepubescent, inside surface stellate-pubescent in distal third and along margins, glabrous below; corolla 12-32 mm long, red to carmine rarely yellow, unspotted, outside and inside sparsely glandular-pubescent; stamens exserted, glabrous; filaments sparsely glandular-pubescent, anthers glabrous; ovary and style glabrous.

Fruit dry, ovoid-conical, 6-9.5 x 3-6.5 mm, slightly compressed in the distal part, ribbed, glabrous.
