Common name: Tall wheat-grass.
Description:
Glabrous tufted perennial, 60-100 cm or more high, without creeping rhizomes; stems fairly robust; leaf blades flat or rolled in, with a few short or long and robust hairs.
Spike narrow, 10-25 cm long, rhachis not disarticulating, spikelets not usually densely arranged, 7-13-flowered, lanceolate or ovate-lanceolate, 10-25 mm long; rhachilla not disarticulating; glumes one-quarter to one-half of the length of the spikelet, lanceolate, awnless, 5-11-veined; lemma 9-13 mm long, conspicuously veined, notched, awnless.
