Description:
Annual herbs; vestiture non-glandular; stems terete; leaves cauline, numerous, alternate, sessile, entire.
Capitula solitary, terminal, pedunculate, small, discoid, heterogamous; involucres cup-shaped; bracts herbaceous with scarious margins, imbricate in 2 subequal series with a few smaller outer bracts; receptacle convex, naked, pitted; outer florets female, 2- or 3-seriate; corollas narrowed and minutely 2- or 3-lobed at the apex; style branches linear, flattened, acute, glabrous.
Achenes bearing minutely 2-fid hairs; pappus of numerous scales exceeding the involucre and corolla; inner florets 2-5, bisexual, sterile, tubular, 3-5-merous; corollas slightly widened upwards; anthers obtuse at the base with short acute apical appendages; style branches subulate, long-papillose outside, partially connate; achenes abortive, linear, glabrous; pappus uniseriate, of bristles or scales.
