Description:
Perennial, 15-30 cm high, with extensive somewhat brittle horizontal rhizomes covered with fibrous sheaths, lacking tubers; from the rhizomes vertical leafy shoots arise; leaves grass-like, distinctly grey-green, channelled above but not keeled below, the margins often incurved, 10-20 cm long, c. 2 mm broad, with loose sheaths; stems erect, terete, longer than the leaves.
Nut obovoid, c. 1.5 x 1 mm, slightly 3-angled, brown, smooth, rather dull, about half the length of the glume.
