Description:
Rosette-forming perennial or annual herbs; roots numerous, fleshy; stolons absent; stem very short; vestiture of short white tomentum, with longer glandular hairs; leaves all radical, flat, lobed to pinnatipartite or rarely entire.
Capitula solitary, pedunculate, radiate, heterogamous; involucres broadly campanulate; bracts herbaceous with scarious margins, imbricate in 2 or 3 unequal series; receptacle slightly convex, pitted, with small scarious scales; ray florets uniseriate, female, fertile, ligulate; style branches ovate, glabrous; disk florets bisexual, fertile, tubular, 5-merous; corolla narrowly campanulate, glandular-pubescent; anthers shortly sagittate at the base with ovate terminal appendages; style branches short, almost completely fused, obtuse.
Achenes all similar, asymmetrically obovoid, ridged on the posterior side, glabrous; pappus absent.
