Description:
Annuals with stiffly erect branches to 16 cm high, becoming more branched towards the apex; leaves linear-lanceolate to linear, 6-12 X 1-3 mm, pointed, slightly compressed above and more or less convex below, green turning dark-brown.
Inflorescence usually one, rarely few, flat to rounded thyrses terminal on each branch, with stalked dichasia but often sessile flowers; flowers 5omerous; calyx lobes oblong-lanceolate, 1.5-2.5 mm long, acute or pointed when young, glabrous, somewhat fleshy, green to brown; corolla cup-shaped, white; lobes oblong-lanceolate, 1-1.6 mm long, usually obtuse, erect and papillose on the upper outer surface; nectary scales oblong-cuneate, usually rounded and slightly broadened towards the apex, membranous, pale-yellow; ovaries almost cylindrical and gradually constricted into a distinct style, with 2 ovules.
Follicles erect, tuberculate, releasing the lower seed by a basal circumscissal split while the upper one remains in the hard pericarp.
