Correa reflexa var. nummulariifolia

Citation: Paul G. Wilson, Trans. R. Soc. S. Aust. 85:30 (1961).

Synonymy: C. nummulariifolia Hook. f., Fl. Tasm. 1:62 (1855); C. rubra Smith var. orbicularis J. Black, Fl.S. Aust. 496 (1948).

Common name: None

Description:
Erect dense shrub 1-3 x 1-3 m; ferruginous-tomentose branches; petiole 3-8 mm long; lamina broadly ovate to orbicular, 1.5-3.5 x 0.8-1.6 cm; glabrous or pubescent above, subglabrous to velvety below.

Flowers 1 (to 3) on short branchlets; peduncle 2-6 mm long; calyx shallowly to deeply cup-shaped, 3-10 mm; corolla 1.5-4 cm long, red with green or yellow tips; filaments of the stamens broadened at the base; anthem prominent, exserted one-quarter to one-half of the corolla length, yellow; ovary glabrous to tomentose.

Fruit 5-8 mm long, green; seeds c. 4 x c. 2 mm, mottled dark-brown or grey-brown.

Distribution:    Tas. (Bass Strait islands).

Flowering time: April — Oct.

Biology: Hybrids with C. aemula, C. decumbens and C. pulchella numerous on Kangaroo Island.

Taxonomic notes: Wilson's creation of this polymorphic taxon does not appear to be correct. S.Aust. material is closely related to C. glabra, whereas Tas. populations are allied to C. backhousiana. Therefore, S.Aust. material will need to be renamed.
