Description:
Annual herb with cobwebby non-glandular hairs; stems slender, terete; leaves basal and cauline, sessile, alternate, flat, entire.
Capitula sessile in dense terminal clusters without a common involucre, homogamous, discoid; capitular involucres cup-shaped; outer bracts imbricate in several successively longer series, scarious, acute; inner bracts c. 2-seriate, with expanded scarious petaloid laminae on broad claws, ultimately caducous; receptacle flat, naked; florets bisexual, tubular, 5-merous, the inner ones sterile; anthers sagittate at the base with oblong terminal appendages; style branches linear, truncate with apical tufts of papillae, fused in the sterile florets.
Achenes obovoid, densely covered with long intricate hooked hairs, with pairs of hairs twisted spirally together on the dorsal face, and a small scarious scale at the apex of the ventral face; pappus uniseriate, of robust bristles barbellate below, densely plumose above.
