Derivation: After Bartholomaeus Carrichter von Redingen who wrote two Herbals in 1575 and 1576.

Description:
Annual herbs, hispid.

sepals erect, dimorphic; petals long-clawed; stamens 6; median glands present.

Silicula dehiscent, differentiated into 2 segments, the upper a compressed sterile beak, the lower subglobular, 3-veined; seeds in 2 rows, mucous; cotyledons conduplicate, radicle incumbent.

Distribution:  Monotypic; from southern Europe, established as a weed in Australia.
