Canthium latifolium

Citation: F. Muell. ex Benth., Fl. Aust. 3:421 (1867).

Synonymy: Plectronia latifolia (Benth.)J. Black, Fl. S. Aust. 535 (1929).

Common name: Native currant, wild currant.

Description:
Woody shrubs 1-2 m high, usually glabrous; leaves with petioles 3-12 mm long; blade ovate to orbicular, rarely lanceolate, 40-55 x 35-50 mm, usually obtuse, abruptly constricted but often with a narrow wing continuing along the petiole, with secondary and tertiary veins showing clearly at least on the undersurface; stipules triangular, entire.

Inflorescence a delicate axillary thyrse with numerous flowers; calyx lobes scabrid to glabrous; corolla white, with scabrid margins to the lobes; fruit 6-8 mm long, green turning black.

Distribution:    W.Aust.; N.T.; Qld; N.S.W.

Conservation status: native

Flowering time: April — June.
