Derivation: Greek kalyx, calyx; thrix, hair; alluding to the long-attenuate sepal apices in the first species known, C. tetragona Labill.
Synonymy: Not Applicable Common name: Fringe-myrtles.
Description:
Shrubs; glabrous or with simple hairs; with or without bud scales; leaves alternate; stipules present or absent, minute.
Inflorescences 1-flowered, the flower pedunculate and subtended by a pair of persistent or deciduous free or connate bracteoles; flowers bisexual, perigynous or epigynous; hypanthium short or long, free from, or adnate to, the style; calyx segments 5, imbricate, persistent, the apex emarginate to long-attenuate (awned); petals 5, imbricate, deciduous; stamens indefinite in number, 1- or several-seriate, the anthers versatile, dehiscing by longitudinal slits; ovary 1-celled, the ovules 2, anatropous, on an axile-basal placenta; style slender, the stigma minute.
Fruit dry, indehiscent, 1-seeded; testa membranous; embryo straight, obovoid to narrowly obovoid, the cotyledons short.

Taxonomic notes:
J. Black maintained Lhotskya Schauer as a genus distinct from Calytrix. The distinction breaks down and the two genera are being combined in a revision of Calytrix (Craven, in press).
