Caladenia carnea var. gigantea

Synonymy: C catenata (Smith) Druce var. gigantea (R. Rogers) W.M. Curtis, Stud. Fl. Tas. 4A:10 (1980).

Common name: None

Description:
Plant to 60 cm, robust, sparsely hairy.

Flowers 1 or 2 rarely more, usually a bright rose-pink, often perfumed; perianth-segments 15-25 mm long, 3-6 mm wide, lateral sepals free; labellum 6-8 mm long, mid-lobe orange; calli in 2-6 rows; labellum and column barred with dark-red as in var. carnea.

Distribution:  Occurs singly or in small groups in clay or gravel soils on steep well forested slopes and ridges (in S.Aust.) and locally common.

  Qld; N.S.W.; Vic.; Tas.

Flowering time: Sept. — Oct.

Biology: Small specimens may be barely distinguishable from var. carnea and var. gigantea in the strict sense may prove to be confined to the east coast of Australia.
