Description:
Perennial herb to 30 cm high; rhizomes absent; stem very short; leaves all radical, sessile, narrowly oblanceolate, entire, acute, attenuate and sheathing at the base, 2-6 cm long, 2-6 mm wide, glabrous; bases of dead leaves persistent.
Peduncles radical, unbranched, scape-like, robust, 12-30 cm long, glabrous, with 1-3 reduced leaves; receptacle hemispherical, 2-4 mm diam.; involucral bracts 20-25, narrowly obovate, subacute to obtuse, 4-5 mm long, purplish, glabrous, entire; ray florets 30-40; ligules oblanceolate, 5-7.5 mm long, mauve; anthers with terminal appendages.
Achenes broadly elliptic, flattened, c. 2 mm long, brown; margins with narrow flat wings, entire, ciliolate; faces smooth; pappus minute, of free subequal bristles.
