Description:
Perennial herb to 45 cm high; rhizome absent; stem very short; leaves all radical, sessile, linear, entire, grasslike, sheathing at the base, obtuse at the apex, 10-30 cm long, 1-3 mm wide, glabrous.
Peduncles radical, robust, scape-like, 20-45 cm long, glabrous, with 1-6 reduced leaves to 5 cm long; receptacle conical, c. 4 mm diam.; involucral bracts 24-38, 3- or 4-seriate, oblong to oblanceolate, 4-6 mm long, minutely glandular-pubescent, often purplish, with obtuse apices; ray florets 30-60; ligules linear, 7-10 mm long, white to mauve; anthers with terminal appendages.
Achenes elliptic, flattened, 2-3 mm long, brown; margins with flat wings, undulate or shallowly lobed and sparsely ciliolate at the edge; faces smooth, glabrous; pappus minute, of free subequal bristles.
