Description:
Annual herbs with minute non-glandular hairs; stems terete, weak; leaves cauline, alternate, flat, entire.
Inflorescence a terminal corymbose cluster of heterogamous compound heads, each consisting of 2 or 3 female capitula surrounding 1 male capitulum; common involucre of c. 4 loosely imbricate scarious bracts; female capitulum with 2 or 3 scarious bracts and 1 filiform female floret; corolla absent; style branches flattened, truncate, glabrous.
Achenes terete, glabrous; pappus absent; male capitulum with 6-9 bracts and 4-6 tubular sterile bisexual florets; corolla narrow below, campanulate above, 5-lobed, yellow; anthers tailed at the base with acute apical appendages; style undivided, clavate; achene abortive; pappus absent.
