Common name: Barley Mitchell grass.
Description:
Perennial, 15-20 cm high; leaf blades flat, tuberculate-scabrous.
Spikes 3-10 cm long, 1-1.5 cm broad, the spikelets closely packed together; spikelets about 4-flowered; glumes subequal, c. 10 mm long, the first 7-9-nerved, the second 13-15-nerved; lemma villous on the back; the entire body c. 4 mm long, the 2 lanceolate glabrous rigid 2- or 3-nerved lateral lobes c. 6.8 mm long, the straight awn, rising from the short broad central lobe, exceeding the lateral lobes by 1-2 mm.
