Description:
Shrub 30-90 cm high; stems erect or ascending, branched, terete, glabrous or subglabrous; leaves lanceolate to obovate in outline, attenuate at the base, 2-7 cm long, pinnatisect to bipinnatisect with distant segments 0.5-2.5 mm wide, green, glabrous, somewhat succulent.
Peduncles erect, to 15 cm long, with reduced leaves below, naked above; involucres 6-12 mm diam.; bracts lanceolate to obovate, glabrous; ray florets 10-20; ligules linear, entire or toothed at the apex, 9-14 mm long, white.
Ray achenes 3-5 mm long, glabrous; disk florets numerous, yellow; disk achenes curved to straight, 2.5-4 mm long, irregularly ribbed, glabrous.

Taxonomic notes:
In its native habitat A. frutescens consists of intergrading entities treated as 6 subspecies by Humphries (1976). Naturalised plants in S.Aust. appear to be derived from 2 of these subspecies, many specimens being intermediate between them.
