Description:
Glabrous tufted perennial, 30-45 cm high; stems and leaves erect, rather stiff, the blades involute-subulate and somewhat scabrous; ligule lanceolate, 4-6 mm long.
Panicle soon becoming loose, 8-20 cm long, with whorled capillary much divided branches; spikelets c. 3 mm long; glumes scabrous on the keel, the first one rather longer; lemmas c. 1.75 mm long, glabrous, awnless, 4- or 5-nerved, denticulate at the summit; palea rather shorter; callus glabrous; bristle about half as long as the palea.
