Description:
Mainly glabrous annuals, 25-60 cm high; leaf blades linear, flat, scabrous, usually 3-4 mm broad; ligule 3-7 mm long, lanceolate, rather obtuse, laciniate, scabrous.
Panicle divaricately spreading, shortly exserted at maturity, rhachis and branches of the panicle scabrous; spikelets 4-5 mm long; the glumes 4-5 mm long, acuminate, scabrous on the nerves; lemmas c. 2 mm long, truncate, villous on the back, the 4 teeth short or the 2 outer ones rather longer; awn 5-7 mm long, rising from about the middle of the back; palea rather shorter than the lemmas; callus shortly bearded; bristle short, hairy.
