Description:
Trees or shrubs with alternate simple entire exstipulate leaves.
Flowers axillary, usually bisexual, regular; calyx small, with an inconspicuous 3-6-toothed border, free or adnate to the disk or ovary; petals 3-6, much larger than the calyx, free or united in lower part and (like the calyx) hypogynous or nearly so; stamens as many as or 2 or 3 times as many as the petals, some reduced to staminodes; ovary usually free and superior, 1- or imperfectly 2- or 3-celled, with 2 or 3 pendulous ovules; style simple.
fruit a 1-seeded drupe; the seed with a small embryo embedded in the summit of the albumen.
