Description:
Small aquatic or subaquatic plants; rhizome creeping; fronds simple and grass-like or with 4 or rarely 2 opposite leaflets borne on a long stipe; sporocarps sessile or pedunculate, oblong to globose, containing numerous megasporangia and microsporangia in the same sporocarp; sporangia extruded in a gelatinous mucilage on rupturing of the sporocarp.

Distribution:  3 genera, including the monotypic Regnellidium in Brazil.
