Description:
2 genera with 8 species in Australia and New Zealand. A family of uncertain affinities, formerly treated as part of the Centrolepidaceae.
Inflorescence a terminal capitulum, often scapose, with an uniseriate involucre of paired bracts; florets unisexual, minute; perianth absent; stamen 1; anther basifixed, 2-celled; ovary 1-celled, stipitate, with 2-several septate stigmatic hairs in a tuft at the apex; ovule 1, pendulous, anatropous; fruit 1-seeded, thin-walled, dehiscent or indehiscent.
Seed with perisperm and a minute apical embryo.
